In the past, prescription sunglasses were limited to standard lenses which were tinted by emersion in a coloured dye. A widely utilised innovation, which is now widely used, is a material which adapts to the brightness of sunlight. Unfortunately, most of these tints do not change in the motor car as the windscreen absorbs the ultraviolet light which triggers the change.
However, technology has advanced to the point that prescription sunglasses can now be polarised which reduces reflected glare, especially from road surfaces and water which greatly enhances vision.
These can now also be manufactured in a range of colours. Some of these lenses can also adjust to the intensity of the light.
Another popular option, is a customised clip-on. Unlike previous clip-ons which were unsightly, customised Clip-ons have a shape which is identical to that of the frame making them virtually invisible.
This method is very cost-effective, especially with more costly lenses as only one pair of spectacles is required.
